For many years, Knut Conradsen was a well-known and respected figure at DTU, where he served as Professor, Head of Department, member of the consistory, and Provost. Most recently, he was affiliated as Professor Emeritus with his institute—today known as DTU Compute.
As a leader, Knut Conradsen played a central role during several pivotal periods in DTU’s history and was known for his deep commitment to the university’s development and conditions. He contributed to several major transformations and to the development of DTU as a leading international elite university.
One of the most significant changes came with the drafting of the so-called DTU Act in 2001, when the university transitioned from being a public university with elected leadership to a self-governing institution with an appointed executive board.
Knut Conradsen was also deeply engaged in the historic restructuring in 2007, when several national research institutions were merged into DTU, significantly expanding the university and establishing it as one of Denmark’s three largest universities.
His extensive knowledge and experience were in high demand throughout his career, and through his exceptional expertise and dedication, he left a lasting mark on research, teaching, and university development. He was also an outstanding orator, and a speech by Knut Conradsen was always—beyond being entertaining—both sharp and incisive.
Knut Conradsen was known for his extraordinary work capacity and his ability to make complex relationships clear and accessible. Thousands of students benefited from his teaching in statistics and image analysis, and he supervised many in their master's and PhD projects.
He also made a significant contribution to developing the field of statistical image analysis at DTU and helped strengthen collaboration between the university and the wider society. His efforts had an impact far beyond the university itself.
Knut Conradsen will be remembered as a respected and dedicated leader, researcher, teacher, and colleague, with a great curiosity about the world and the people around him.
Knut Conradsen passed away at the age of 80.
