About the initiative
Denmark and Europe are facing a new security and political landscape where we are committed to rearm and prepare to meet novel, hybrid and complex threats against infrastructure and security.
The initiative “From Intelligence to Business” (Fra Efterretning til Erhverv) is focused on demonstrating and exploring ways of turning government-commissioned research within the intelligence domain into technological solutions with commercial potential.
The initiative is a joint initiative between Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Danish Defence Intelligence Service (DDIS), and the Danish Industry Foundation (IF).
Danish companies have restricted access to research within intelligence technologies and relevant markets. The ambition of the partnership is therefore to accelerate the journey from idea to application for intelligence technologies, so they can strengthen Denmark's security while creating growth and export potential for Danish businesses. The ambition of the initiative is to mobilise the national ecosystem of universities, research centres, start-ups, and small and medium-sized enterprises.
The ambition is also that the model may serve as a demonstration for how Denmark and Europe can establish fruitful links between state, universities and companies in critical areas.
Collaboration
From Intelligence to Business invites innovative SMEs and startups to collaborate directly with DTU and DDIS. We recruit companies on an ongoing basis and encourage interested SMEs and startups to reach out.
Who can participate?
We welcome SMEs and startups that:
- Develop technologies within AI, cyber defence or situational awareness.
- Offer civilian solutions with dual‑use potential.
- Are interested in licensing DTU technologies.
- Demonstrate sufficient technological and organisational maturity to enter a structured PoC process.
What we offer
Our program offers tailor-made support to help you commercialize cutting-edge technology for the intelligence community, whether you're developing new solutions or adapting existing civilian technologies to meet operational demands.
Access to real operational challenges
- Work directly with DDIS as problem owner and validation partner, gaining rare insight into operational needs that are normally inaccessible.
- Through the lens of new security- and societal needs and scientific options we identify innovation and scalability in an early stage. The project aims to excel in a complex and multidisciplinary setting and therefore has close relationships with both industry, intelligence and other universities, among others.
Collaboration with DTU researchers
- Engage with leading experts within AI, cyber security and sensing technologies, and gain access to relevant test environments and research‑based technical sparring.
Business and technology development support
- Receive structured guidance on commercialisation, licensing opportunities, dual‑use potential and market understanding.
Proof‑of‑Concept funding
- Selected projects may receive PoC resources to accelerate prototyping, validation, and testing in collaboration with DTU researchers and DDIS.

It is crucial to promote innovation and ensure continuous technological development that can counter the serious threat landscape that Denmark and Europe are facing. This requires close cooperation between authorities, industry, and the research community, and it is therefore important that the project establishes a strategic partnership that can help strengthen Denmark's security.
DTU has a long tradition of bringing research into play where it is most beneficial to the authorities and companies that will use it. In the intelligence area, it is crucial that new technology is developed responsibly and on a solid scientific basis. Therefore, we see this partnership as a strong and necessary framework for accelerating innovation and strengthening Denmark's technological preparedness.
When the intelligence service formulates what they need, Danish companies gain a unique insight into a difficult-to-access market with very special characteristics and needs. In this way, we create groundbreaking innovation collaborations that also open new customer relationships in areas where many companies normally have difficulty navigating.
