Michael Schultz Rasmussen has been appointed Head of Division for the new Space Geodesy Division at DTU Space. He comes from a position as manager at COWI A/S.
Michael Schultz Rasmussen is already well known at DTU and DTU Space where he now takes up a position as head of the new Geo-division.
He is a member of the DTU Space Advisory Board. In August he will take over the leadership of the two research divisions Geodesy and Geodynamics at DTU Space that was merged into one Geo-division in March this year.
"It is a perfect match and I am looking forward to have Michael as a part of our leadership team at DTU Space"
Kristian Pedersen, director DTU Space
This merger took place to strengthen the Geo-field at DTU.
”There is a huge potential in the merged Geo-division. Michael Schultz Rasmussen has a lot of experience in the field and is a strong profile to lead the new division and strengthen the field of geodesy and geodynamics,” says DTU Space Director Kristian Pedersen.
”So it is a perfect match and I am looking forward to have Michael as a part of our leadership team at DTU Space”.
Michael Schultz Rasmussen comes from a position as Market Director in the consulting and engineering firm COWI A/S. He holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Copenhagen. He has also created the company DHI-GRAS that specializes in satellite image and data processing.
Michael Schultz Rasmussen has been part of the leadership at COWI where he has worked since 2007 with utilization of digital geodata from for example aircraft and satellites. Since 2011 he has been a member of the DTU Space Advisory Board. In this capacity Michael Schultz Rasmussen has in-depth knowledge about DTU and DTU Space when he takes up his new position.
”I am really looking forward to work with the very competent group of experts in the field of geodesy and geodynamics at DTU Space. This field is getting increasingly important these years with the need for precision positioning as well as their use in the fields of autonomous systems and climate research. Personally it is also a great pleasure for me to become a part of DTU Space which I have worked with and appreciated for many years,” says Michael Schultz Rasmussen.
The new Geo-division that Schultz Rasmussen will lead works with earth observation, measuring and mapping in relation to among other things climate change. The division focuses on measuring and observation of the earth’s gravity field, shifts in the earth’s crust, ice cover and earth and sea height levels. The division conducts research and offers research based consulting for Danish authorities.
