Being a toxicologist, I have been working by
contracts for the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA)
since 2002. EFSA is the keystone of European Union (EU)
risk assessment regarding food and feed safety and EFSA
provides independent scientific advice and clear
communication on existing and emerging
risks.
The EFSA’s risk assessment work is done by
EFSA’s Scientific Panels, which are composed of independent
experts. Each Panel is responsible for a different area of
the food chain, with their work coordinated by the
Scientific Committee.
I work in close contact with the Panel on food
contact materials, enzymes, flavourings and processing aids
(CEF), which deals with questions on the safety of use of
materials in contact with food, enzymes, flavourings and
processing aids. My field of expertise is toxicological
evaluation of chemically defined flavourings and I work as
a scientific officer, and participate in working groups
meetings and the CEF Plenary. For more information about
EFSA:

I also work in close cooperation with the
Health and Consumer Protection Directorate General of the
European Commission (DG SANCO), which is mandated to
"ensure food and consumer goods sold in the European
Union (EU) are safe, that the EU's internal market
works for the benefit of consumers and that Europe helps
protect and improve its citizens' health." In the
context of regulatory toxicology, DG-SANCO is responsible
for developing frameworks for the safety assessment and
regulation of:
Pesticides
;
Food Additives, Flavorings & Food-Contact Material
;
Nutritional Supplements
;
Contaminants
;
Genetically Modified Organisms
;
Nanoscale Particles
