Deep Generative Models for Dental Scans and Dental Treatments

Johan Ziruo Ye: Deep Generative Models for Dental Scans and Dental Treatments

“Data is the new oil.” – consequently companies are gathering data as never before, and this is also the case within dentistry. An important new development within dentistry is the addition of 3D jaw scans of the patients. This allows for the dentist to utilize the patient’s 3D jaw scan from previous visits, as these may be far in-between. Additionally, the software may be able to do diagnostics or simple evaluations.

However, as these scanners become more widespread, the numbers of scans also grow exponentially. This also means the need to sort and categorize these scans increases proportionally. The aim of our project is thus to utilize a neural network to identify these trends and categorize the 3D data in an unsupervised manner. This would allow for easier sorting and browsing your 3D data for selecting a target data subset to develop new technologies. This can easily be generalized from 3D jaw scans to LIDAR scans.
