Big data, AI and IoT

Big Data

DTU Compute has brought together some of the best researchers and lecturers within big data - the processing of huge data volumes using mathematical models and algorithms.

The department is involved in Big Data DTU, and at the Big Data Business Academy, businesses can, by means of a targeted course, expert workshops, and a supplementary training programme, learn to use big data optimally for increased growth and competitiveness.

As participants in the social partnership DABAI (Danish Center for Big Data Analytics driven Innovation), we have a leading role in exploiting big data to solve business and societal challenges, together with the strongest computer science research environments in Denmark.

The department is involved in recommended courses and offers opportunity for departure report writing (M.Sc.) - consult the site Specialize within Data Science / Big Data.

Artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that aims to create intelligent machines. It has become an essential part of the technology industry and is a research area in huge growth.

DTU Compute has successfully launched the Safe AI initiative Ellis (European Lab for Learning & Intelligent Systems) that aims at investigating techniques, methods and tools to increase the social and legal acceptability of AI-based and data-driven systems with respect to security and safety guarantees, as well as ethical questions relevant to the interest of their human users. As part of this, DTU Compute has created a new infrastructure for modelling, design and implementation of autonomous sensing systems.

In addition, DTU Compute, together with Copenhagen University, has created a new business-oriented research unit on AI, which successfully recruits international talent for AI research and applied AI projects.

From Summer 2018, DTU Compute offers the new bachelor programme Artificial Intelligence and Data (in Danish Kunstig Intelligens og Data). The education addresses the increasing demand for engineers at the crossroads of people, machines and data.

Internet of Things

Internet of things (IoT) is the interconnection via the Internet of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data.

DTU Compute has successfully developed the Nordic IoT Hub into a strong research and innovation driven platform for basic and applied research.
