It is expected that the Danish Parliament agrees on the expansion of Østerild and Høvsøre during summer.
Since the beginning in 2012, the test centre in Østerild has grown. The relentless weather over the area, has given the country a leading role in transforming wind power into a viable source of clean energy.
Today, six huge wind turbines are placed at the centre. The largest one is 200 metres high. But in the future, the wind turbines in Østerild will grow.
Expansion
In March 2017, the Government, Socialdemokratiet, Dansk Folkeparti and Socialistisk Folkeparti (SF) agreed to expand the test centre in Østerild as well as the one i Høvsøre.
Earlier this month, the expansion of the two test centres for wind turbine was discussed.
The plan is that the two centres are being expanded with an additional two test stands each. Thus, in the future there will be 7 test stands in Høvsøre and 9 in Østerild.
Additionally, it will be possible to place larger wind turbines at the two test centres. In Østerild it will be possible to place wind turbines up to 330 meters high, and in Høvsøre it will be possible to test wind turbines up to 200 metres high.
Larger turbines harness more wind, thus they create more energy. The biggest modern offshore turbines produce nearly 20 times as much power as ones developed three decades ago.
The law is expected to take effect on July 1st 2018.
