Just a few years ago learning was all about going to a lecture and listen to the teacher. Today learning is very much more and takes place on many different learning platforms. Especially e-learning is in focus and provides lots of possibilities for making learning deeper and more individual, innovative and fun.
It is crucial that learning methods are developed in cooperation with the area where it should be used. Our focus is on learning which builds the expertise from the entire department to develop the learning technologies for tomorrow’s engineering education.
Examples of recent work
- Statistical/mathematical e-learning: HEROS. Developed and implemented a new approach to e-learning called HEROS: a non-linear learning object based learning system. It lets students design their own individual research based course in statistics and mathematics in a way which fits their individual levels and learning styles. I have lead a DKK 3 million project funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to develop a continuing education course in statistics for industry and a university course in mathematics (e*math) – both based on HEROS. One result is the current introductory course in mathematics at DTU (800 students each year, receiving very good student evaluations, adopted by Roskilde University and the University of the Faroe Islands, asked for by other universities).
