A postdoc position is available in the section for Scientific Computing at DTU Compute, the Department for Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at DTU, starting August 1, 2017, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is funded by the project “Improved Impedance Tomography via Hybrid Data” funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research | Natural Sciences. The overall project considers coupled-physics impedance tomography with hybrid data, including problem formulations and derivation of reconstruction algorithms.

Responsibilities and tasks
State-of-the-art tomographic methods typically involve a trade-off in performance – for example, in Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) the contrast can be excellent while the resolution is low. To overcome such limitations, new tomographic paradigms taking advantage of the coupling between two or more physical waves are emerging, e.g., EIT combined with ultrasound into acousto-electric tomography. These new hybrid models in coupled-physics tomography raise a range of mathematical questions and bring new computational challenges.   

Depending on the postdoc’s interests, the work will focus on theory related to problem formulations and inversion methods, or numerical implementations of inversion algorithms, or a combination of both.  

The research will be carried out in a research team of 5 people. This team is embedded into the inverse problems group in the section for Scientific Computing at DTU Compute. The section consists of 10 faculty members and 6 postdocs.

Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Preference will be given to candidates that have a documented research experience in Applied Mathematics in particular within coupled-physics tomography, Inverse Problems, PDE modeling, mathematical methods and computational algorithms for tomography or PDEs.

The postdoc should be able to work independently and act as team-players in the research group. Moreover, the postdoc must master the English language with proficiency.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is until the end of 2018.
