DTU Compute’s Sections for Image Analysis and Computer Graphics, invite applications for an appointment as Postdoc within vision-based quality control of metallic 3D print and moulding. The position is available from September 2017 or according to mutual agreement.

The aim of the new position is to expand the Departments teaching and research in3D computer vision and digitalization of manufacturing.

Responsibilities and tasks
As part of our involvement in the Innovation Fund Denmark research project 3Dims, we are looking to hire a post. doc. for 2 years to do research into quality control and assurance of a 3D print process chain. More specifically, we are charged with integrating 3D computer vision methodology with numerical simulation, in order to better predict the 3D geometry of printed objects and their derivatives.

Other content of the position: 

  • Research with some teaching. It may also involve handling other assignments to a limited extent.
  • A main part of this project will be adapting (or possibly constructing) a thermomechanical process simulator such that it allows for the incorporation of noisy vision measurements into the constraints.
  • Interaction and collaboration with companies in the project.

At DTU Compute, we value knowledge sharing and cross functionality. Therefore, you are expected to cooperate and be eager to build relations with colleagues in the department and with other departments of DTU, e.g. DTU Mechanical Engineering in the field of manufacturing process simulation and 3D printing.

You are expected to participate in departmental teaching at all levels so you should value visionary and meaningful communication. The teaching will cover Bachelor-, Master- and PhD-level courses. Bachelor courses are taught in Danish, other courses in English. Non-Danish speakers are not disqualified for the role, but will be trained in Danish in order to participate in teaching on all levels.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent.

Further qualifications: 

  • Ability to collaborate in a cross disciplinary environment and to communicate with people of different scientific backgrounds.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Programming, mathematical modeling and simulation, at the level where you can construct and implement a numerical solver for thermodynamically process simulation.

 Ideally the candidate should also have a background in the following: 

  • 3D computer vision i.e. structured light scanners and geometric processing.
  • Using 3D data to perform geometric metrology.
  • Numerical process simulation.
  • Geometric metrology.

If such a background is not had, it is expected that the candidate has the prerequisites, in e.g. mathematics or physics, to obtain the skill set to needed to address the research task at hand.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years.   

The main workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus, but several times a month it is expected that the post doc. works from one off the project companies in Jyllinge.
