The Section for Image Analysis and Computer Graphics at DTU Compute, invites applications for an appointment as Assistant Professor in computer vision with an industrial focus. This is an entry-level faculty position that is available from primo 2018 or according to mutual agreement. 

Our department DTU Compute is an internationally unique academic environment spanning the science disciplines mathematics, statistics and computer science. At the same time we are an engineering department covering informatics and communication technologies (ICT) in their broadest sense. Finally, we play a major role in addressing the societal challenges of the digital society where ICT is a part of every industry, service, and human endeavour.

DTU Compute plays a central role in education at all levels of the engineering programmes at DTU - both in terms of our scientific disciplines and our didactic innovation.

With this position, the department wants to strengthen its capabilities in teaching, research, and innovation within computer vision focusing on industrial applications, in relation to e.g. Industry 4.0. The successful candidate is expected to join a team working on radiometric and 3D geometry estimation as well as computer vision based robot control. The successful candidate will have excellent research potential and be eager to engage in collaborative research projects.

At DTU Compute, we value knowledge sharing and cross functionality. Therefore, you are expected to cooperate and be eager to build relations with colleagues in the department and with other departments of DTU, e.g. DTU Mechanical Engineering in the field of Manufacturing.

You are expected to participate in departmental teaching at all levels so you should value visionary and meaningful communication. The teaching will cover Bachelor-, Master- and PhD-level courses. Bachelor courses are taught in Danish, other courses in English. Non-Danish speakers are not disqualified for the role, but will be trained in Danish in order to participate in teaching on all levels.

Responsibilities and tasks
With this position, the department wants to strengthen its capabilities in teaching, research, and innovation within computer vision focusing on industrial applications. The successful candidate is expected to join a team working on radiometry, 3D geometry estimation, and computer vision based robot control.

It is expected that the candidate will develop his or her field of research in a way that complement other research activities in the section mainly focused on computer vision, but also in relation to other areas of image analysis as well as computer graphics. Key research elements include: 

  • 3D computer vision
  • Estimation of materials radiometric properties
  • Statistical methods for computer vision including machine learning (e.g. deep learning)

In the section, much research is carried out through collaborations with external partners, such as manufacturing companies, as well as various departments at DTU and other academic partners. It is expected that the successful candidate will take active part in and promote these collaborations including innovation aspects.

Teaching at all levels is an integral part of the position, and the candidate is expected to actively engage in and develop teaching at DTU. To qualify for this, it is expected that the candidate attend teaching education at DTU. Furthermore, the candidate must take part in student supervision and incorporate student projects in research when relevant.

Besides the core activities of teaching and research, the position also requires some organizational tasks in the section, e.g. arranging workshops, exchanging knowledge with society, etc.

Qualifications
Candidates for an Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). 

The successful candidate must have excellent research potential and be a team player that is eager to engage in collaborative research projects. We are seeking a person with: 

  • a background in computer vision, image analysis, or related fields like machine learning
  • some experience with industrial collaborations
  • some experience with super vision and teaching, e.g. as teaching assistant
  • an interest in application driven research
  • and has a general interest in activities that support activities in the research section, the department and DTU

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

An assistant professorship is a permanent entry-level faculty position. After a maximum of 4 years, an assistant professor can be promoted to an associate professor position after assessment. More information can be found here: Career paths at DTU.
